Dr. Wendell Cole is an Orthopaedic Surgeon who specializes in the treatment of athletic injuries and performs arthroscopic surgery of the hip, shoulder, elbow, and knee. He performs minimally invasive procedures such as hip arthroscopy for labral tears and femoral acetabular impingement, high tibial osteotomy for knee preservation, cartilage transplants for the knee, and elbow arthroscopy. He also specializes in biological alternatives to surgery such as platelet- rich plasma (PRP), bone marrow and adipose derived stem cell injections. Dr. Cole also specializes in Shoulder replacements and complex shoulder reconstructions.
Dr. Cole was raised in Georgia and graduated magna cum lade from Georgia State University. He attended Morehouse School of Medicine where he obtained his medical degree. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Tulane University School of Medicine learning from the pioneers in shoulder and elbow arthroscopy including Dr. Felix “Buddy” Savoie, and Dr. Michael O’Brien.
To further his expertise in complex shoulder and elbow surgery, Dr. Cole completed an apprenticeship as a chief resident, and spent a month in Bogota, South America at Clinica Del Country, studying under the renowed surgeon Dr. Mauricio Largacha and his colleagues.
Currently, Dr. Cole is completing his fellowship at the prestigious NYU Langone Orthopaedics, in New York, New York. During his fellowship, he participated in the orthopaedic care of the Jacksonville Jaguars NFL team, and the New Jersey Devils professional hockey team.
Dr. Cole is also a leader in Orthopaedic educations. He has published over 8 book chapters, 15 peer reviewed articles, and also published a Board/OITE preparation book to help orthopaedic surgery residents study for and pass their board exams. He is also the host of the #1 educational orthopaedic surgery podcast called Nailed it Ortho, having spoken with hundreds of otrhopaedic surgeons and published over 200 audio episodes and over 80 educational video episodes. Dr. Cole also published a book called The Med School Survival Kit, which has helped thousands of medical students excel in the classes.
Dr. Cole is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and the Arthroscopy Association of North America.
